Crows star cops dreaded injury news

Star Crow Matt Crouch has undergone further surgery on his troublesome groin.

The Adelaide midfielder missed all of season 2021 after off-season hip surgery led to groin soreness, prompting surgery in May.

"After seeking further medical advice the decision was made for the on-baller to have more surgery," the Crows said in a statement.

"The operation was to alleviate soreness and a timeline of Crouch's return to running will become clearer with his rehabilitation in coming weeks, as well as further consultation with the surgeon."

The 26-year-old featured in Adelaide's pre-season and had hoped to avoid groin surgery earlier in the year.

But after Crouch's bid to recover without surgery didn't go to plan, he underwent an operation to stabilise a tendon in his right groin.

The 2017 All-Australian and club champion recently put pen to paper on a two-year contract extension.

"It was always my preference to re-sign with Adelaide and it was just a matter of taking the time to work through where both I and the club were at," Crouch said last month.

"Although it has been a frustrating year for me personally with injury, I'm now looking forward to getting back on the training track with all my teammates in pre-season and returning to the field next year.

"We are building something special here and I am confident I have plenty of good footy ahead of me as has the team."

Crouch has played 125 games for the club since making his debut back in 2014.
