EKOenergy

EKOenergy is an international nonprofit ecolabel established in 2013 by the Finnish Association for Nature Conservation (Suomen luonnonsuojeluliitto ry) in cooperation with other environmental NGOs. It spans the electricity, gas, heating, and cooling sectors of renewable energy and is applicable to all forms of supply, including green tariffs, Power Purchase Agreements (PPA), and unbundled Energy Attribute Certificates.

EKOenergy is an ecolabel that goes beyond typical responsible initiatives, as all certified sources meet enhanced sustainability criteria and contribute to projects aimed at combating energy poverty.

A broad scope of action
EKOenergy is compatible with various supply methods, including green tariffs, Power Purchase Agreements (PPA), and energy certificates such as Guarantees of Origin, RECs, I-RECs, among others.

Awards and nominations

EKOenergy has been honored with several recognitions such as being a finalist for the European Sustainable Energy Award and being nominated for the Nordic Council Environment Prize. The ecolabel has also received the European Citizen’s Prize from the European Parliament and has been recognized by the 100 Projects for the Climate initiative

International cooperation

Initiated by the Finnish Association for Nature Conservation and supported by environmental NGOs, EKOenergy actively collaborates with international organizations, such as the Climate Action Network International, IRENA Coalition for Action, RE-Source Platform, and others.
